MLB Player Props: Take Sean Manaea, Zack Greinke Against Bad Offenses

Consistency is vital in life and in betting.

That is the motto I'm rolling with to start of the Major League Baseball betting week.

Sean Manaea has been consistent on the road for the San Diego Padres in 2022, while Zack Greinke has been strong at home for the Kansas City Royals.

I'm targeting Manaea and Greinke for two different types of pitcher props against two of the worst offenses in baseball.

As for hitters, Steven Kwan and Hunter Renfroe had two of the best weekends out of the All-Star break. The Cleveland Guardians leadoff man and Milwaukee Brewers slugger reside in favorable positions to extend their hitting runs into Monday.

Monday MLB Player Props

Sean Manaea Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+100)

Sean Manaea's recent strikeout totals are not anything to write home about.

However, the San Diego left-hander should be trusted to string together punch outs against a Detroit lineup that has been strikeout prone since leaving the All-Star break.

The Minnesota duo of Sonny Gray and Joe Ryan both fanned seven batters in the two-game series over the weekend against the Tigers. Frankie Montas struck out five batters in three innings in a truncated start on Thursday for Oakland in Game 2 of a doubleheader against Detroit.

Manaea has been better on the road this season with 61 strikeouts compared to 39 at home. He recorded at least six strikeouts in six of his nine road appearances.

Additionally, the Padres southpaw completed six innings in eight of his nine road starts. He should have at least two opportunities to fan some of the high-strikeout batters in the Detroit lineup.

Zack Greinke Over 15.5 Outs (-160)

Zack Greinke will not overpower many batters at this stage of his career, but he will record a high number of outs on a consistent basis.

The experienced Kansas City hurler should follow a recent trend of pitching deep into a game against the Los Angeles Angels.

Opposing starters have lasted six or more innings in six of the Angels' last eight games. One of the two exceptions to that trend was Cristian Javier, who struck out 10 Angels in 3.2 innings.

The Angels rank 29th in road batting average and 27th in road on-base percentage in the majors. Do not put too much stock into their nine-run performance against Ian Anderson and the Braves on Sunday. Anderson is going through a lot of struggles on the mound.

Greinke pitched into the fifth inning in all of his seven home starts for the Royals. He went six innings against Oakland on June 24 and five days later versus Texas.

In his last three home starts, Greinke gave up 10 hits, two earned runs and two walks over 17 innings. He has the potential to get through innings with 10 or fewer pitches and he should at least pitch into the fifth inning to hit this prop.

Steven Kwan Over 1.5 Total Bases (+120)

Steven Kwan has become one of my favorite players to target for total bases props.

The Cleveland Guardians leadoff hitter is coming off a series in which he recorded 13 total bases over four games against the Chicago White Sox.

Kwan has 36 total bases on 27 hits in July and he should add to that total against Nick Pivetta, who allowed 23 hits and 20 earned runs in 13.1 innings this month.

Kwan should have at least four at-bats against Pivetta and the Boston pitching staff, which is in shambles after an atrocious weekend series against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Hunter Renfroe Over 1.5 Total Bases (+100)

Hunter Renfroe found his hitting stroke against the Colorado Rockies pitching staff over the weekend.

Renfroe hit a home run and recorded two hits in every game of the series between the Rockies and Milwaukee Brewers.

The Brewers outfielder gets one more crack at the Rockies on Monday and he faces a pitcher he has a strong history against.

Renfroe owns a .389 batting average with one home run and three RBIs in 18 at-bats against Colorado's Kyle Freeland.

Freeland allowed 19 hits and 15 earned runs over 16.1 innings in his last three starts and he has allowed six or more hits in each of his last six appearances.
