Soccer Selections: Take RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund in Europa League

Thursday's second legs in the UEFA Europa League playoff round bring an interesting dynamic from the betting side.

A majority of the two-leg matchups are up for grabs and there are some teams that can even win on Thursday, but not advance.

Borussia Dortmund falls into that category because it faces a two-goal deficit against Rangers. Dortmund can still win Thursday's match, but be eliminated in normal time if it wins by one goal.

RB Leipzig sits in a better spot than its German counterpart, as it just needs a one-goal lead after 90 minutes to move on.

Leipzig is in some of the best form of any Europa League participant and that could show on the field on Thursday afternoon.

As a reminder, all of these bets are for 90 minutes only. They will be graded before any of the matches reach extra time. The picks are below are for which teams I believe will win the 90-minute matches on Thursday.

Thursday Soccer Selections

Overall Record: 107-119

Real Sociedad vs. RB Leipzig (+120) (12:45 p.m. ET)

RB Leipzig looked like a much better side over the last two months under manager Domenico Tedesco.

RB Leipzig is up to fourth in the Bundesliga and it has a single loss in its last seven games. That defeat came against Bayern Munich.

Christopher Nkunku is one of the best in-form forwards in Europe and Leipzig's defense allowed one or zero goals in five of the last seven contests.

Real Sociedad has a single win in its last six games and it is coming off a 4-0 loss to Athletic Bilbao over the weekend.

RB Leipzig will not just run into the Reale Arena and win big, but it should do enough to earn a one-goal advantage and come away with a victory to move into the round of 16.

Lazio (+125) vs. Porto (12:45 p.m. ET)

Lazio owns a three straight clean sheets on home soil.

The Serie A side allowed a single goal in its last five home contests.

The defensive form inside the Stadio Olimpico is a massive help for Lazio to deal with the threat posed by Porto.

Lazio needs to bounce back from a 2-1 loss in the first leg in Portugal, which means it should be the more aggressive side to start the match.

Lazio needs to win by two goals to advance to the round of 16 in regular time. It needs to win by one goal to force extra time.

In either situation, Lazio needs to win in 90 minutes, which is how the money line bet will be graded.

Rangers vs. Borussia Dortmund (-140) (3 p.m. ET)

Over 3.5 Goals

Borussia Dortmund dug itself a big-time hole in the first leg against Rangers.

Dortmund is down two goals to the Scottish side after suffering a two-goal defeat last Thursday. The German side responded to that loss by pummeling Borussia Monchengladbach for six goals on Sunday.

The Dortmund defense has not been great all season. Since January 1, Dortmund played in five of eight games with four or more goals.

Thursday's matchup at Ibrox should be a wide-open affair and Dortmund will likely use an attack-heavy lineup to pull back the deficit by halftime.

If that happens, the second half could be wide open and it may produce some of the most entertaining soccer we have seen in the last two weeks.
