CBB Picks: Take Wyoming over Colorado State in Mountain West showdown

The most meaningful game on the Monday night college basketball slate comes from the Mountain West.

Colorado State and Wyoming sit second and third in the Mountain West standings behind Boise State.

Wyoming needs a win to solidify its NCAA men's basketball tournament resume, while a win for Colorado State makes it feel safer when it comes to the field of 68.

The Cowboys carry a little extra motivation going into the contest to improve their resume and produce a better performance than their last two games.

Wyoming is a slight underdog on the spread, so I opted to go with the home side on the money line to headline Monday's picks.

Monday CBB Picks

Overall Record: 139-168-1 (10-6 Saturday)

Wofford at Mercer (Over 136) (7 p.m. ET, ESPNU)

Mercer is 6-0 to the under in the last six games, but four of those totals were in the 140s and 150s.

Wofford scored over 80 points in each of its last four victories. The Terriers rank 23rd in two-point offense and 62nd in three-point offense on KenPom.

Mercer ranks 61st in three-point offense and it rates beneath 275th in two and three-point defense.

It is also worth noting that Mercer and Wofford both rank in the Top 25 in free-throw shooting on KenPom. That could aid the over if it needs help getting there in the second half.

Morehead State (-5.5) at Tennessee Tech (7 p.m. ET, ESPN+)

Morehead State comes into a two-game stretch against Tennessee Tech off a loss to Murray State, who controls the Ohio Valley Conference.

Morehead should rebound in a strong manner against Tennessee Tech because of its advantage in a few different categories.

The Eagles give up nine fewer points per game than Tech and it ranks 200 places higher on KenPom in two-point defense.

Tennessee Tech ranks 344th in two-point defense, 310th in three-point offense and 332nd in free throw percentage. Not a great set of statistics if you want to spring an upset.

Albany at Vermont (-15.5) (7 p.m. ET, ESPN3)

Vermont has been one of the most consistent offensive teams over the last few weeks.

The Catamounts scored over 80 points in each of their last seven games. They rank inside the Top 15 in three different offensive metrics on KenPom.

Albany ranks below 300th in two and three-point offense, effective field goal percentage and adjusted efficiency on KenPom.

That is not exactly the offense you want to carry into Vermont to try and come close to beating the best team in the America East.

Drexel at UNC Wilmington (-1.5) (7 p.m. ET)

I've had my eyes on UNC Wilmington for the last week.

The Seahawks are undefeated in CAA play and they have been a bit undervalued by the books.

UNCW takes on a Drexel team that has alternated wins and losses over the seven games. That trend will come to an end on Monday as the Dragons suffer a second consecutive loss against a team that is rolling right now.

Colorado State at Wyoming (+106) (8 p.m. ET, FS1)

Wyoming has not played its best over the last two games.

The Cowboys lost to Boise State and barely beat Air Force in their last two games.

Colorado State might be vulnerable since it just lost by 14 points to UNLV.

The difference-maker here could be the three-point defense of Wyoming. The Cowboys rank 11th in three-point defense and Colorado State is 15th in three-point offense.

If the Cowboys can limit the Rams' three-point production, they could come out on top in a massive Mountain West contest.
