Soccer Selections: Take PSG, Inter to win by multiple goals

Wednesday is the final day before the holidays in which multiple big-five European leagues are in action.

Serie A, La Liga and Ligue 1 all have matches strewn across the day, while some of England's top clubs participate in the League Cup quarterfinals.

After Wednesday, the English Premier League will be the only big-five competition in action for the next week, so what better way to bid adieu to those leagues than to win some bets.

Most of the plays for Wednesday's slate are in Serie A and Ligue 1. They focus on the league leaders, top scorers and some favorable matchups.

Wednesday Soccer Picks

Overall Record: 83-90

Serie A: Venezia vs. Lazio (Over 2.5) (10:30 a.m. ET, Paramount+)

Venezia and Lazio played in some high-scoring games over the last month.

Venezia's last five games have had at least two goals. It conceded four times against Atalanta and allowed six of 20 shots on target against Juventus.

Over 2.5 hit in six of the last seven Lazio games across all competitions. Lazio needs a win to keep itself on the fringe of the race for the top four spots in Serie A going into the holiday break.

Serie A: Inter Milan (-1.5) vs. Torino (12:30 p.m. ET, Paramount+)

Inter Milan has been cruising through its competition lately.

The Serie A leader earned each of its last six victories by multiple goals. It produced a clean sheet in all of those matches.

Torino comes into the San Siro with a 1-2-5 road mark and it scored four times on its travels in Serie A. It is at a clear disadvantage against the best team in Italy.

Serie A: Verona vs. Fiorentina (12:30 p.m. ET, Paramount+)

Dusan Vlahovic to score (+105)

Dusan Vlahovic is Serie A's leading scorer and he has the second-most goals of any player in the big five European leagues.

Robert Lewandowski is the only striker with more goals in the big-five leagues than Fiorentina's Serbian striker.

Vlahovic has eight goals in the seven games since returning from the international break. He is as close to a must-bet as you can get at plus money.

Ligue 1: Lorient vs. PSG (-1.5) (3 p.m. ET)

I'm willing to take the risk on PSG to cover the 1.5-goal spread at plus money even without Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

PSG earned its last five victories by two or more goals and it is facing the 19th-placed side in Ligue 1 in Lorient.

Lorient scored two goals in its last eight matches. Any team with that dreadful of a scoring record has a high potential to lose by multiple tallies to PSG.

Ligue 1: Bordeaux vs. Lille (3 p.m. ET)

Jonathan David to score (+140)

Jonathan David is the only Ligue 1 striker with double-digit goals.

The Canadian striker has an ideal matchup to send him into the holiday break against Bordeaux, who has the league's worst defensive record.

David has a goal in three of his last four trips to the pitch. He is more than worth the bet at +140 in the form he is in.

Ligue 1: Clermont vs. Strasbourg (Over 2.5) (3 p.m. ET)

Strasbourg feasted on some of the weakest defenses in Ligue 1.

They put up five goals on Saint Etienne and Bordeaux and scored three times versus Metz. Clermont is fourth in goals allowed behind those three clubs.

Strasbourg's record against the worst defensive clubs in France leads me to believe this is a good bet at plus money.

English League Cup: Tottenham (+115 to win in 90) vs. West Ham United

Tottenham Hotspur started to play better under Antonio Conte recently.

Spurs should have gained confidence from a 2-2 draw against Liverpool over the weekend and now they have a chance to advance to the semifinals of the English League Cup.

Conte's squad does not have a ton of COVID-19 related absences after an outbreak inside the club and it is unbeaten in its last three games.

West Ham United is a tough foe, but Spurs have the momentum on their side to win at home.
