Soccer Selections: Put Faith In High-Scoring Atalanta

Atalanta is an exciting and difficult team to bet on at the same time.

The Serie A club is known for its high-scoring games, but the odds makers are also aware of that.

Rarely will you see an Atalanta game with an over of 2.5 goals priced below -150, so you have to find the right games to bet a higher over at a better price, or get creative with how you bet the Italian club.

Tuesday’s matchup with Venezia appears to be the perfect situation for that. Venezia sits 16th in the league table and it has been involved in some high-scoring games of its own this season.

With that in mind, I’m targeting Atalanta in two different capacities on Tuesday’s small European soccer slate.

Tuesday Soccer Picks

Overall Record: 67-75

Atalanta (-2) vs. Venezia (12:30 p.m. ET, Paramount Plus)

Atalanta Team Total Over 2.5

Atalanta has scored multiple goals in six of its last seven games.

Two of those totals came against Sampdoria and Spezia, who rank near the bottom of the Serie A table alongside Venezia. Atalanta posted three goals against Sampdoria and scored five times versus Spezia.

Venezia conceded two or more goals in four of its last six trips to the pitch. Napoli, Inter and AC Milan, who are all above fourth-place Atalanta, scored twice against the Serie A bottom dwellers.

Atalanta does not have many injury concerns and that should lead to a near-full strength attack firing on all cylinders against Venezia.

Newcastle United (-105) vs. Norwich City (2:30 p.m. ET, Peacock)

Tuesday is the day Newcastle United finally gets its first victory.

The Magpies are in a must-win spot in the English Premier League relegation battle against Norwich City .

Newcastle is 0-3-3 at St. James’ Park this season, but it has scored 10 goals in the process.

Norwich has been awful away from Carrow Road. The Canaries have a -14 goal differential on their travels.

Something has to give here and I think Newcastle can do enough in front of goal to go level with Burnley and Norwich in the relegation battle.

Hellas Verona (-150) vs. Cagliari (2:45 p.m. ET, Paramount Plus)

Hellas Verona is 5-0-2 in home games.

Cagliari sits in 19th place in the Serie A table with eight total points and only two points on the road.

Verona has picked off Juventus, Lazio and Roma at the Marcantonio Bentegodi Stadium

Cagliari is 0-4-2 in its last six games and it has not won since October 17.
